Hiking

The southern part of Chiba Prefecture is known as a habitat for daffodil. Daffodils bloom during season on both sides of the town road. This is called Suisen-Road (daffodil road) and is a popular hiking course.

Looking for tiny white flowers

“It says the blossoms are a sight to see. Do you wanna go Suisen-Road?”

“I am not so interested in daffodil, Dad. But I would go with you if you want.”

Suisen-Road is close to Mt. Iyogatake where we planned a hike in the morning. As Iyogatake hike is a very short one, I tried to plan another activity around there. “A walk to see daffodil should be easy and fun.”, I thought and hoped my daughter would like it…

“Dad. It looks cherry blossoms are in bloom. Where is daffodil?”

On the way to Suisen-Road iriguchi (entrance), we found Kawazu cherry trees along a river. There were daffodils along the road, but it looked like blossom-viewing season of daffodil was almost at an end.

“Dad. Where is Suisen-Road? I’m getting tired.”

We found and entered Suisen-Road, but flowers were not blooming as expected. Instead of daffodil, we could see blossoms of a rape plant.

“It’s already Spring. It’s too late to here for daffodil. I wanna go home.”

It looked like she was done for the day.

“We better turn back…”

When I said so, we found a small colony of daffodil.

“OK, let’s go back to home after watching daffodils on the slope.”

Unfortunately, it was not good timing for us to walk Suisen-Road.

If somebody wants to walk there, I recommend visiting there by mid January.
I think beautiful flowers shown in the below links are expected.

  • Hello!

I noticed the beauty of Japanese nature when I went to an English language school in the US. While staying the US, I enjoyed hiking at National Parks. I wanted visitors from different countries to have a good time here in Japan as I did in the US.
