Premier dignified mountain in Tohoku filled with remaining snow and alpine plants
Mt. Chokai is referred to as Dewa-Fuji, as the beautiful shape of mountain. It is a composite volcano consists of many parasite volcano, and its long volcanic activity formed a complex topography. A large amount of snow valley remains even in summer due to high snowfall in winter. The water of melted snow sustained the people in the foothills, and Mt. Chokai has been worshiped as guardian angel.

Route and estimated course time:
Hokodate -(1:50)- Obama-koya (mountain hut) -(1:00)- Shimekake -(1:25)- Mt. Chokai (Shinzan) -(1:15)- Shimekake -(0:50)- Obama-koya -(1:20)- Hokodate [7:40 in total]
Note: A snowy valley remains from 6th station of the mountain even in late July. This route as well as the other routes is a long route to the peak of the mountain. If you plan a day-trip, you should start walking in early morning.
