Kannokurayama Day Hike (28Aug2011)

Hiking

I noticed my daughter could walk mountains even if it was a bit long hike. As a training, I planned Kannokurayana hike. I explained my daughter that we would go out to play on a long roller slide. In addition to that, I told her that we would hike a mountain. At that time, I did not realize that it would become a tough hike…

“You like playing a slide, right? I found a long roller slide in Saitama. Do you wanna play?”
“Why not? Can you take me there?”
“OK. I know you like roller slides. But, before the slide, we will hike a mountain. Is that OK with you?”
“No problem.”

It was the end of August when the lingering summer heat is intense. We had to walk on paved roads for a long distance to hike Kannokurayama. Heat was reflected from the paved roads. Soon after we started walking, I noticed my mistake.
“I should not have planned the Kannokurayama hike in summer.”

There was a post to submit “hiking plan” before hiking at the trailhead.

It took more than 30 minutes to the trailhead. The road to the trailhead was broiling in the sun.

The mountain path started among trees that blocked the sunlight. It was a little cool.

My daughter required a break again and again. But she walked faster on the steeper slope after we took a long break at Kannokura-toge.

After a break, we headed to Ogawamachi station. The way to the station becomes a paved road in the middle. A long walk on a paved road…

When we arrived at Ogawamachi station, we felt like more than half of the way we walked was on the paved road.

After the hike, I took my daughter to a park. She enjoyed playing on a long roller slide.

  • Hello!

I noticed the beauty of Japanese nature when I went to an English language school in the US. While staying the US, I enjoyed hiking at National Parks. I wanted visitors from different countries to have a good time here in Japan as I did in the US.
