Mt. Kobushi

Name in Japanese: Kobushi-dake (甲武信ヶ岳)
Location: Nagano, Yamanashi, Saitama
Elevation: 2,475 m

A towering mountain in the recesses of beautiful vallery and dense forest

Mt. Kobushi has eadstreams of Japanese large rivers, such as the Shinano and the Arakawa. In other words, a hiking route to Mt. Kobushi is the path through beautiful woods and deep valleys. Nishizawa Keikoku (Nishizawa Valley) us a famed tourist spot and Higashizawa Keikoku (Higashizawa Valley) is popular for shower climbing.

There are several routes to Mt. Kobushi. Two routes shown here.

  1. From Mokidaira: 9 hours (15.5 km)
  2. From Nishizawa-keikoku: 8 hours 45 minutes (14.6 km)

Description:
For hikers using public transportation, Mokidaira trailhead is 4-km far from Azusayama bus stop (about 90 minutes walk). There is a parking space at Mokidaira.
The route passing Oyamashi shrine and Nametaki (headstream of Chikuma Liver promenade) is a gentle slope and relatively easy to hike.
There is a path to traverse from Kobushi mountain hut to Mt. Sanpo. The route through Mt. Sanpo is tough due to lots of ups and downs. There are chain places between Mt. Sanpo and Jumonji mountain hut. Area directly under the mountain top of Mt. Oyama is the one with approximately vertical wall and a caution is required.

Stay on established trails and watch your footing, especially at overlooks and near drop-offs. Never throw or roll rocks because there may be hikers below.
